First overall consortium meeting of the Safe AI Engineering project at Bosch in Renningen

From September 23 to 24, 2025, the Safe AI Engineering Consortium held its first major project meeting at the Bosch Research Campus in Renningen, Germany — a place for interdisciplinary innovation and forward-looking research. With its open communication zones, test grounds, and modern labs, the campus offers ideal conditions for creative collaboration.

More than 80 experts from the consortium came together to present the results of the various subprojects to date, exchange information on work progress, discuss issues, and finalize the holistic methodology and implementation approach for Use Case 1 as the next step. The presence of the project sponsor underscored the importance of the meeting.

The meeting focused on preparations for the Use Case 1 demonstration, which will take place at AVL Germany in November. The aim of Use Case 1 is to test a camera-based AI perception function – specifically, the reliable detection of a stationary vehicle and a stationary pedestrian on a straight road. It is an initial scenario whose complexity will be increased as the project progresses in order to meet the high requirements for the safety and robustness of AI systems.

A key part of the meeting was defining and coordinating the interfaces between the subprojects, which are essential for a successful integration in the vehicle. Existing gaps were identified and concrete measures were decided upon to close them by the upcoming use case demonstration.

In addition to the technical content, the meeting also provided opportunities for networking, interdisciplinary exchange, and informal discussions. The inspiring atmosphere on the research campus and the evening get-together promoted the team spirit and a shared vision. The project meeting thus laid the foundation for the coming months. A common understanding of the current work status of all work areas was created and the basis for the successful demonstration of the first use case was laid – with clear goals, defined interfaces, and a consortium that is pulling in the same direction.
